Ronin

The process of tracking someone is more of an art than a science. Figuring out where they are going and what they are doing is not a challenge for amateurs. Deidre (Natascha McElhone) and Sam (Robert De Niro) make it look easy but it could serve as a textbook example as the pose as tourists taking snapshots, having coffee at a local bistro and generally almost being in the way of their prey.

The Royal Tenenbaums

It’s never a good thing to try and fool your family with a scheme to return to their good graces. The repercussions can be savage and brutal. Any hope for forgiveness is unlikely. Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) has been kicked out onto the street, he is broke and now homeless. He finds out that his wife, Etheline (Anjelica Huston) is considering marrying her accountant, Henry Sherman (Danny Glover). So Royal devises a plot to convince Etheline that he has stomach cancer in order to win her back as well as the affections of his estranged children. But his symptoms are unlike any other case of stomach cancer.

Rise

Sometimes what you realize that you don’t know as much as you think you do. Proto-vampire Sadie (Lucy Liu) is killing those who turned her. She finds Eve (Carla Gugino) in a lounge and is about to stake her with a crossbow, when Eve tries to persuade and seduce her with information and misdirection. Sadie may be a novice and in need of some context for her future, but a silver tongue will only take you so far.

In a delightful skirmish of words we discover that Sadie’s saviour isn’t what he seems to be. Eve isn’t as charming as she thinks she is. And Sadie isn’t as gullible as Eve hopes.

Resident Evil: Extinction

Why is it that those who run science think they can demand results? Simply making the demand cannot guarantee them. Then raising the threat of replacement by those who will compounds the stupidity. On the other hand, when it is Umbrella Corporation scientist Dr. Sam Isaacs (Iain Glen) there may be some merit in such a crackdown. He is cloning Alice (Milla Jovovich), running deadly rat maze tests on her and finally stuffing himself with what he thinks is a solution to the zombie virus based upon her blood. He needs somebody in control before he goes off the deep end. Oops, too late.

Rush Hour 3

It is my fervent hope that Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker got paid an boatload to assuage the shame of having this on their resume. But Paris sure is alluring in the movie. And was that Roman Polanski doing the cavity search?
