I like a movie made on a shoestring when it can provide me with a reasonable plot, able acting, interesting locales, etc. But when the trade-off is continuity, it can be darn hard to stick with it to the end. Here, you’ll find the exteriors don’t match the scenery through the car windows, the chase cars get out of order, the camera speeds up to demonstrate stuff going fast and poor old Jack Foster (Steven Seagal) looks like he doesn’t know how to drive, sitting so close to the wheel. Sigh…

How long can you hold on to an idea before it slips into the dangerous territory of obsession? An incident can eat away at you until nothing else about the circumstances matter until you set it right. But it makes you meshuggah. Should you let it go? Of course, but that is easier said than done. Mickey Fitzpatrick (Edward Burns) is one of those people. Three years after finding out that his ex, Heather Davis (Cameron Diaz), slept with another guy (he found the pair passed out together), his only regret in breaking up with her was not taking his TV. He decides he wants it now. Not to be outdone, Heather demands his watch, a gift from her.

How often do you think that you come within seconds of losing your life? Events collide to bring together circumstances where you have a moment to decide whether your life is forfeit. A finger waggle here or there may be all that it takes. HRH ( Rupert Penry-Jones), pubbing incognito, has poured a batch of pints down his neck and has to relieve himself. One of his table mates, Stabber (Trevor Fox), has followed to do the same but in the sink and provokes a confrontation. We’ve all been part of the high school pyramid. Some of us are near the top, others fall into the middle and many of us scamper around filling out the bottom. And there is only one direction to move. Up. Why? Who’d want to drop down where we’d become the victim of all those above? But it is often perception that imposes where we are situated. Unfortunately, we only realize this after high school is over and we’re peering at it from the pyramid of work. Sigh… Sometimes, there are those who want to leap up and grab a new station. But then there is Monique Valentine (Alex Breckinridge) who defines a whole new pyramid. She gets what she wants and doesn’t take prisoners. Illyria prep school is only a bridge to the rest of the world. When two strapping young lads hit on her, she doesn’t hesitate to eviscerate them socially.

Dread may not be one of the seven deadly sins but it sure was present throughout my time watching. Each of the murders is based on one of the sins but it was the last one which embodied two sins that was a full tilt creep out. Detective Lt. William Somerset (Morgan Freeman), Detective David Mills (Brad Pitt) and the killer John Doe (Kevin Spacey) are driving to an empty field where they’ll find Doe’s latest victim. As they approach the field, a delivery truck arrives. Somerset stops the van and the driver reveals a box addressed to Detective Mills. Somerset opens the box and recoils in horror. Doe smarmily talks about visiting Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow), Mills’s wife, and killing her and taking “her pretty head” as a souvenir.
