Van Helsing

It is never a good idea to piss off a woman, especially one who carries weapons. Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale) is preparing to go after the vampires as she sheathes a sword, slips a knife into a boot sheathe, checks and holsters a pistol, grabs a pointy hammer and strides with determination towards the castle keep. Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) sprays her with a knockout gas and, when she awakes, she goes looking for him.

Shaun of the Dead

This is my kind of movie. But it isn’t the kind of movie that one should consume snacks while watching, particularly liquids. You’d be surprised how far you can snort a mouthful of tea. Shaun (Simon Pegg) and his buddy Ed (Nick Frost) stumble drunkenly out of their local singing along to some incomprehensible (to me but not them) tune when they see a figure down the block braying. They turn to one another and decide this is just the counterpoint they need for their song and the stranger want to sing along.

Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

I’ve been interviewed a number of times for newspapers and been peripheral to events in other stories. It is always a vague disappointment when they fail to get the details correct. Indeed, it got to the stage where I’d pass on chances to talk to the media for fear that they’d orient any commentary to their particular agency’s agenda. When that meanie TV reporter Heather Jasper-Howe (Alicia Silverstone) corners Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and twists his words around, I felt nothing but empathy for the poor sod. At least in my case, the reporter didn’t stick their mic in my face. I dread to think how they would have cut the video I did.

Ocean's Twelve

I don’t know how you felt watching this movie. Despite the thin plot, I found myself thinking these folks can’t get much cooler than this. Even when Tess Ocean (Julia Roberts) is cajoled into playing Julia Roberts to let the gang gain entrance to the museum. It all seems to be working until Bruce Willis (as himself) shows up and things begin to go awry. Then Isabel Lahiri (Catherine Zeta-Jones) reveals that she has been in contact with the real Julia Roberts who is running late for another appointment. Oops…
